Happy New Year
Dear Family, Hello and greetings from Elder Meyer and Elder Durfee. We had a great week with the work in our area here in Berthoud. We made a beautiful scripture reading calender for our investigator named George. He has been struggling to read from his scriptures daily and we felt that a Scripture calender just might be the thing for him. We put a specific scripture to read for each day for December and January. We dropped the calender off at Georges and talked with him for a few minutes. I hope he liked it, I feel it will help him gain a greater testimony as he puts forth the effort to read daily. Also with our investigator, we had specifically invited two different members for our appointment with George so we could have at least one member present for the appointment. We had one member show but George and the other member were unable to make it. We did the work to have a member present even thought the appointment fell threw. We will see what happens this week. I will work on contacting George and our member present the day of and the day before to make sure we can all make it. This will help us hopefully have a lesson this next week. Also to help find investigators, we specifically for this next week tracked for the Elect. I noticed a difference in the people we spoke with, almost all the people we talked to were more friendly and more open for hearing the gospel. I felt that Heavenly Father helped the people recognize us for the representatives of God that we are. Their was a nice spirit all week. On one specific occasion, almost every house we left a pass a long card with some sort of invitation for the people. It was great and I am so glad to be here. The Lord has an amazing work for us here. We can do it. Life is good and we are His missionaries. To help our less active members elder we tried to set appointments with some of these families and asked them if they would be willing to take the missionary lessons. We saw great blessings as we did this, last Monday one of the less-active families we met with said they would be interested in taking the missionary lessons. The husband said that they are right now searching for the right church. I was excited and feet that Heavenly Father is preparing this family to receive the gospel. Great things are happening for us here in Berthoud. The Lord is preparing the people here to receive the gospel. I have enjoyed my studies this last week. I have gained greater faith and a stronger testimony to follow my Savior Jesus Christ. I know that as a missionary I am doing what my savior Jesus Christ wants for me. I feel blessed and am grateful for the blessings Heavenly Father pours down upon me. We can do it! With the Lord blessing is upon us, we cannot fail! With much rejoicing and love, Elder Durfee

Dear Everyone,
I hope all is going great for you, This week to help our investigator progress,
we stopped several times to see how, George is doing. We helped answer his
questions and invited him to church repeatedly. He said he would for sure come.
Unfortunately it snowed and George never come to church. We stopped by later
Sunday evening to see how he is doing and why he was not there at church. He
said that he awoke and was all nervous to come to church. We talked with him,
told him we missed him and that we wished he would come. He said he would come
next week. We also had a great lesson with George earlier in the week with a
member present. We planned on teaching him the Plan of Salvation but when we
arrived George never read the Restoration Pamphlet we gave him. So we tried to
quickly review it with him before the plan of salvation. We ended up teaching
the first lesson the whole time. George said he would pray to know if it is true
that night. He told us he feels the Book of Mormon is true and comes from God. I
think he questions this statement when he is not with us very often.
This week we trackted into several people who invited us to come back. We were
excited and one of the people, her name is Julie said she would come to church.
It snowed and she never came. We will stop by her house later today of tomorrow
to see how she is doing. I have been asking all the potential investigators it
we could bring a member with us to our appointments. I hope it will help. The
only problem is that the people who set up an appointment with us tend to not be
there when we go by. Kinda strange. We will keep looking for the Elect in our
endeavorers to serve the Lord.
We had a ward Christmas party this last Friday that we had been inviting people
to. A few less-active people we had invited actually came. It was great, they
even came up to us and said hello, it was great. We had a good time and there
was just a sweet spirit there.
Elder Meyer and I were going to be late for dinner one night, we were trackting
down the street and we only had four houses left. For the sake of time we left
them for another day and went to dinner. The next day we went back to finish up
the houses. One of the doors we trackted into turned out to be a inactive
member. While she was there she told us how she had been thinking of coming back
to church. We invited her to church that Sunday and I even told her that if we
did not see her at church, to expect us to come and visit her during the week
after. She agreed. It was pretty neat I am glad we went back the next day and
were on time for dinner. Just goes to shows that when we are doing what the Lord
asks of us, He uses us as as instrument to further the work.
We had a wonderful lesson with a less active sister. In the appointment she
told us that she was just starting to feel comfortable with the members again.
We asked her for a return appointment and she said we could come back every
week. It was nonchalant but a slight success in our book. We rescheduled for
next week and the fellow shipper, said they could come with us for next week. It
was a blessing from the Lord. It is amazing because he prepares the people not
us. We just kinda open our mouths and set a few appointments and the Lord does
the rest. We need to pray with more faith and rely even more on the Lord. That
is what I learned.
I myself am doing wonderful. I set a goal to study all the Preach My Gospel
lessons completely and have memorized scripture references for each topic. I
have been doing that, starting with lesson one. With three days I am already
halfway threw prophets. I set a goal to study for thirty minutes of my personal
study time to study Preach My Gospel. At first it was hard to do and I was not
too pleased with it. Today I enjoyed it and I fell more prepared to teach the
lessons. Fun insights on what I should continue to teach and what to stop
teaching. It has been great. The other thirty minutes is used for studying the
Book of Mormon. I do not finish it in my allotted time, I am enjoying spending
lunches and even before bed doing extra study of the Book of Mormon to stay on
track.
All in all I am doing good. My face is a little wind burnt (it is seven degrees
outside pretty cold on a bicycle) but I should be ok. I unpacked my scarf.
Training
Elder Meyer is doing good. As of this morning he is senior companion. I am
excited for him and ready to serve under his leadership this week. We are
continuing to study the third lesson almost finished it. We have role played
teaching the first lesson and actually taught it unintentionally to George this
last week. We need to work on the second lesson and being ready to teach it.
Still do not have a scripture for each topic with Elder Meyer. We will finish
that by the end of the week. We are ready to teach lesson one and will start
practicing lesson two this week. I am doing great!!! Love you all!!!

Dear Family,
We stopped by and talked with our investigator George this week. Since it was
thanksgiving we were unable to actually share a message with him but we talked
of the plan of salvation for a few seconds and are planning on teaching it again
to him next week. He said he would come to church but did not attended that day.
We went by after church to see how he is doing. We let him know we missed him,
wished he was there, and that we will be seeing him more often. (asked if we
could come by periodically during the week to share a short scripture with him
on the front porch. I think it might help his progression). That was George this
week.
We had an appointment with a potential but they never showed last week. When we
went on exchanges this last week I realized that I had stopped inviting people
to learn with us. I was inviting people to read the book of Mormon on their own
and had stopped trying to set up appointments with them. I am working on
changing that this week. Hopefully this will help us find more investigators and
better invite people to learn more about the Restored Gospel.
We set up appointments with less active members this last week. Some of them
have strong testimonies and have hard feelings against someone in the ward that
keeps them from coming to church. We have planned a message on acting in faith
that we are planning on sharing with these less active families to invite them
to act in faith. Help them set goals to progress. This was our work with less
active members this last week.
Our companionship study is going fairly good. We are preparing for our first
lesson that we will teach to an investigator. We have been a little inconsistent
in role playing daily but when we do it, the spirit is present and we learn and
are edified. I find that I am learning also and becoming a better teacher.
Dear Mom,
It is great to hear you are reading the Book Of Mormon with me, that is great!
I have loved reading the scriptures daily like this, there is a great spirit
that comes from the written word.
Thanksgiving was great. We had our dinner with a family at around 2:30 pm. It
was good. From then on we went and visited families. It was great because each
family we visited had pie for us, yummy!! I think by the end of the day I had 9
or 10 pieces of pie. Even a family sent us home with whipp cream and our very
own pumpkin pie. I was very excited. I hope all is going good for you.
I talked in church on Sunday, they called us last Monday and asked if we could
speak on service threw doing missionary work. It was slightly nerve racking but
when my turn came to speak, I was not nervous and could clearly think as I spoke
it was great!! a blessing for being a missionary.
Mom I broke out the sweaters, they are very nice and warm. I have been waring
one every day. I decided, I like them.
Thanks for sending the shoes, I appreciate it. Physically doing great. Enjoying
doing everything and just being alive. Tell Dayson Happy Birthday for me. I am
excited for him.
I love you all!!!
